Find your ideal healthy weight range based on height, gender, and multiple reference formulas.

💡 These are reference formulas. Healthy weight depends on muscle mass, body composition, age, and medical history. Consult a doctor.

What is Ideal Body Weight?

Ideal body weight (IBW) is a target weight range associated with optimal health outcomes based on your height and gender. Unlike BMI which uses current weight, IBW formulas provide a goal weight range to aim for. Multiple formulas exist because no single formula is universally accurate for all body types, ethnicities, and ages.

The Four IBW Formulas Compared

Example: Male, 175 cm height

Hamwi (1964): 48 + 2.7 × (inches above 5ft) = 48 + 2.7 × 9.8 = 74.5 kg
Devine (1974): 50 + 2.3 × (inches above 5ft) = 50 + 2.3 × 9.8 = 72.5 kg
Robinson (1983): 52 + 1.9 × (inches above 5ft) = 52 + 1.9 × 9.8 = 70.6 kg
Miller (1983): 56.2 + 1.41 × (inches above 5ft) = 56.2 + 1.41 × 9.8 = 70.0 kg

Tips to Reach Your Ideal Weight

🎯
Set Realistic Goals
Safe weight loss is 0.5–1 kg per week. Losing 10 kg takes 10–20 weeks with consistent effort. Crash diets cause muscle loss, nutrient deficiency, and almost always result in weight regain.
🏋️
Muscle Matters
Ideal weight formulas don't account for muscle mass. Athletes and bodybuilders may weigh more than their IBW yet have excellent health. Use body fat percentage alongside weight for better assessment.
🍛
Indian Diet Approach
Focus on reducing refined carbs (white rice, maida, sugar) rather than eliminating them. Add protein to every meal (dal, paneer, eggs, chicken). Eat 2–3 cups of vegetables daily.
👨‍⚕️
Consult a Doctor
IBW calculators are screening tools, not medical advice. Thyroid conditions, PCOS, medications, and other factors affect weight. Always consult a doctor before starting a weight management program.
