How GPA and Grade Calculation Works
Your overall grade percentage is calculated by totalling all marks obtained and dividing by total maximum marks across all subjects. The GPA (Grade Point Average) on a 4.0 scale is a standardised measure used by universities — particularly important for international applications, scholarships, and graduate admissions.
Grade Scale Reference
A+ (95–100%) → GPA 4.0 — Outstanding

B+ (85–89%) → GPA 3.3 — Very Good

C+ (75–79%) → GPA 2.3 — Above Average
C (70–74%) → GPA 2.0 — Average
D (60–69%) → GPA 1.0 — Pass

Tips to Improve Your Grades
Focus on Weak Subjects
Improving from 55% to 70% in a weak subject gains more marks than improving from 85% to 90% in a strong one. Use our calculator to identify which subjects give maximum impact.
CGPA vs SGPA
CGPA is Cumulative GPA across all semesters. SGPA is for a single semester. Universities consider CGPA for placements and admissions. Don't let one bad semester define your academic record.
International Applications
US/UK universities typically require 3.0+ GPA. Top programs like MIT/Stanford expect 3.7+. Indian percentage needs conversion: 70% ≈ 3.0 GPA. Use official WES evaluation for admissions.
Campus Placements
Most Indian companies have a CGPA/percentage cutoff of 60–65% for campus placements. Tier-1 companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro require 60%+. Product companies and startups vary widely.
