⛽ Fuel Cost Calculator

Calculate fuel cost for any trip based on distance, mileage, and current fuel price.

💡 Actual mileage depends on speed, load, AC usage, road type and tyre pressure. Add 10-15% buffer.

How to Calculate Fuel Cost for Any Trip

Fuel cost depends on three factors: distance, vehicle fuel efficiency (mileage), and current fuel price. Most people underestimate trip costs because they use the manufacturer's claimed mileage instead of real-world mileage, which is 15–25% lower due to traffic, AC usage, load, and road conditions.

Fuel Cost Formula

Fuel Needed (litres) = Distance (km) ÷ Mileage (km/litre)
Total Cost = Fuel Needed × Price per Litre
Cost per km = Total Cost ÷ Distance

Real-World Mileage Guide (India)

Bikes: Hero Splendor 60–70 km/l  |  Activa 45–55 km/l  |  Royal Enfield 30–35 km/l
Petrol Cars: Maruti Alto/WagonR 18–22 km/l  |  Swift 18–21 km/l  |  Baleno 20–23 km/l
Diesel Cars: Swift Dzire 22–25 km/l  |  Innova 12–16 km/l  |  Fortuner 10–13 km/l
Highway vs City: Highway mileage is 20–30% better than city due to less braking and steady speeds

Tips to Improve Fuel Efficiency

🚗
Optimal Speed
Best fuel efficiency is achieved at 60–80 km/h for most cars. Driving at 100 km/h uses 15–20% more fuel than 80 km/h due to aerodynamic drag increasing exponentially with speed.
❄️
AC Usage
Air conditioning reduces fuel efficiency by 8–12% in city driving. Use AC at 24°C and recirculation mode to reduce compressor load. At highway speeds, AC is more efficient than open windows.
🔧
Tyre Pressure
Under-inflated tyres by 10 PSI reduce fuel efficiency by 0.2% each. Check tyre pressure monthly. Correct pressure is on the door sticker, not the maximum on the tyre sidewall.
Fuel Price Comparison
Petrol prices vary by ₹2–5 across Indian states due to local taxes. Filling up in cheaper states during long highway trips can save ₹200–500 on a full tank.
